Some history

Urubamba province is located at the Northeast of Cusco and is crossed by the Urubamba River. The Incas that knew the soil chose that fertile zone to establish their cities. For that reason in Urubamba province all the principal monuments Incas can be found: Urubamba, Ollantaytambo, Chinchero, Huayllabamba, MachuPicchu, Marás and Yucay.

Urubamba is at 2800 m of altitude and has a temperate climate all year. It is located at 1h15 away from Cusco, half an hour of Ollantaytambo, Pisac, Chincheros and Moray and two hours from Machu Picchu, making it a wonderful place to explore the history Inca! This city has beautiful landscapes, with a panoramic view of the valley and the imposing snowed mountains of Vilcanota. It is also a perfect place to do outsides sports, walking, canoeing, cycling in Mountain, horse strolls, or only relax and enjoy nature.

Getting there

The arrival by plane is from Cusco national airport (CUZ). Urubamba is 71 km away from Cusco city, to the north, following the road Cusco-Pisac-Ollantaytambo and at 50km away by the road Cusco-Chinchero-Urubamba. What to bring

In every moment of the year, you should take some warm clothes (jersey, vest, sweater etc.) for mornings and nights. If you arrive in the rainy season, you will need clothes and shoes suitable for rain. It is always good to have comfortable shoes to walk in the soil road. Moreover don’t forget your hat and sunscreen.


The temperatures in Urubamba don’t vary a lot. The climate is temperate with a medium temperature of 18 degrees Celsius all year. / Relative Humidity: 68.86% / The first frosts arrive in May and finish in August. / The rainy season is from November till March. In that period it is not too hot not too cold.


New soles, Dollars and Euros are generally accepted. In some places the credit cards are accepted too and there are various exchange centers.
